1
Put together a Joker-like attire. He may look like a clown, but the Joker actually dresses quite nice. Wear a dark colored dress shirt with a brown tie and matching vest. Put on a matching suit jack over that.
-
2
Add in a trench coat to help complete the costume if you are going to be going outside in the costume. If not, then the suit alone is perfectly fine.
-
3
Purchase a pair of cowboy or dress boots. While they are not a big focus of the costume, you will want shoes that can help match and complement the suit.
-
4
Wear a pair of purple gloves. Purple has been one of the signature colors featured with the Joker and the tradition continues with Batman: The Dark Knight. The gloves will definitely help you stand out as the Joker.
-
5
Apply a layer of white face paint to your face. This will represent the base of the Joker’s face paint. Use a couple of extra layers to make sure that the paint looks like a pure white and no skin is showing. Even out the white paint so it almost looks like natural skin.
-
6
Use black face paint to create a large black circle around your eyes. If you can force some tears out so that the paint spreads naturally with water, then the face of the Joker can appear more distressed and lifelike.
-
7
Use red face paint to paint your lips. The Joker’s face is deformed so the lips need to extend out on the sides. To achieve this, just extend the red face paint to about the middle of your cheek. Use pictures as a reference.
-
8
Grow your hair out a little long, or use a wig to recreate the Joker’s hairstyle. Comb the hair down so that it looks stylish or mess the hair up to show that the Joker is in the middle of a battle.
-
9
Complete the costume with a fake weapon or prop that the Joker would be seen with, like a knife or a gun.

6. No need for tears. Use eye drops if you must, but you could also just smudge the black eye accents with your finger or a brush or sponge. 7. The Joker's face isn't "deformed", it's *scarred*. Buy a woochie kit, or makeup wax. The DK Joker has what is known as a 'Glasgow smile'. Wikipedia it to help you obtain your objective. 8. Don't forget your green hair gel! 9. If you'll be on the street, try to get a costume weapon that looks obviously jokey or fake, so the cops don't confiscate it. Or, you could carry a box of #2 pencils in your pocket and merrily hand them out to folks you meet! 10. Happy Halloween! -

It is always easier to criticize than to write, so I hope alanmd23 will take this with as much salt as necessary. 1. The Joker dresses in a purple coat and green vest. Check photos, depending on how accurate you want to be. I won't be wearing a coat under my trench, because a shirt and vest will be enough layers -- I just hope it's cold ! 3. The DK Joker is actually wearing lace-up Oxford style shoes, with clownishly big toes. You might find something that would do in a thrift store or Goodwill. 4. No argument on the purple gloves -- they and the green vest will really help make your costume. 5. I would say, DON'T even out the clownwhite makeup. As a matter of fact, before sponging it on, raise your forehead and squint your eyes, and sponge the clownwhite over them, allowing for your skin to show through. Also: 6. No need for tears. Use eye drops if you must, but you could also just -
