Everyone seems to have a favorite Christmas movie. Some may prefer a religious classic, a comedy or even a cherished cartoon from childhood. Chances are your favorite Christmas movies were chosen based on your upbringing, but what type of movies do you choose for your kids? Should you introduce them to your favorites or should you choose a Christmas movie that teaches them something? It really all depends on what your want your kids to learn about the holiday.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider their age. The age of your kids will play an important roll in the type of Christmas movie you choose. For example, kids under the age of six are less likely to understand a complex movie about the true meaning of Christmas. On the other hand, preteens might be bored by hokey cartoons.

  2. Step 2

Teach them the true meaning of the holiday. It doesn’t matter what age the kids are, you can still choose a religious Christmas movie. There are cartoons and live action films that are perfect for kids of any age group. The important thing is to get the message across to your kids. Best of all, the perfect Christmas movie will catch their attention and help them understand.

  3. Step 3

Introduce them to your childhood favorites. There are some Christmas movies that stand the test of time. These may be films that feature a boy that desperately wants a BB gun or even a round-headed cartoon character that seems to always be depressed. Whatever your childhood favorites were, there’s a good chance your kids will love them too.

  4. Step 4

Choose a heartwarming movie. While it is extremely important to teach your kids about the true meaning of the holiday, it’s also important to teach them about giving. Choose a Christmas movie that touches their heart and helps them understand that not everyone is as fortunate as they are. This type of Christmas movie will give your kids a quick reality check of what the world is like.

  5. Step 5

Keep it fun. A Christmas movie should never leave your kids feeling depressed, even those that are heartwarming. Instead, these movies should leave your kids wanting to enjoy the holidays and make a difference. Most importantly though, Christmas movies should help kids understand the reason for the season.

Tips & Warnings
  • After showing a heartwarming Christmas movie, talk to your kids about how they can make a difference.
