Purchase drains that will work best for your yard. There are many different brands and sizes of drains. Buy the system that works best for you and take it home, preparing to install it.

Dig a hole for each of the pop up drains you will be installing. Space these holes evenly around your lawn in order to capture the highest amount of water. Dig down about six inches deeper than the drain is tall in order to compensate for any margin of error that may appear while installing.

Dig a trench from each of the holes and lead them back to the storm drain on your property. Ideally, your pop-up drain will dump its water here and keep your lawn healthy and moist. It is important to dig the trench about six inches deep and a few inches wider than the pipe you will be installing.

Connect the pipe to the storm drain, repeat this for each of the pop up drains you are installing. Test your pipe to make sure the gradient is such that the water will drain into the storm drain and not flow the opposite direction.

Drop the pop-up drain in to each of the holes and connect it to the storm drain pipe. Test to make sure it functions properly. Replace dirt over the pipe and plant grass seed.
