How to Plan a Trip to Liverpool, England

1. Start your trip in London by taking the underground to St. John’s Wood, where you can then walk to what is perhaps the world’s most famous road: Abbey Road. Cross the street at Abbey Road, read the messages left on the wall in front of Abbey Road Studios and keep an eye out for musicians heading in and out of the studios.

2. Take a train from London to Liverpool, which only takes a little over two hours. The train ride provides plenty of time to catch up on sleep or to watch as the English countryside rolls by.

3. Once you arrive in Liverpool, make your way to Matthew Street, home of the famous Cavern Club, where the Beatles played in their early days, and the Cavern Pub, home of classic Beatles’ memorabilia.

4. While still on Matthew Street, go to the Beatles Shop and Matthew Street Gallery, where you can stock up on souvenirs for loved ones at home.

5. After you’ve spent time exploring Matthew Street, head to Albert Dock where you can watch ships roll by and visit The Beatles Story.

6. Purchase a ticket and wander through The Beatles Story, a museum dedicated to Liverpool’s most famous sons. You’ll walk through the early days of the Beatles through to their breakup and on to the solo career of each former Beatle.

7. Sign up for a bus trip around Liverpool. One of the most famous bus trips is the Magical Mystery Tour, which takes you to all of the Beatles’ sites in the city: From the Beatles’ childhood homes and Strawberry Fields to Penny Lane.

8. Once you’ve completed your Beatles tour of Liverpool, you can explore some more or have dinner before your train back to London arrives.

• You can walk around Liverpool or you can even hire a car to see the many famous Beatles’ sites. However, if you’re new to Liverpool, you’ll likely want to join one of its famous tour buses, such as the Magical Mystery Tour.

• Liverpool is an ideal day trip from London, and you’ll have plenty of time to see the Beatles’ sites, have a bite to eat, and explore the city before hopping on the train back to London.
