How to Relax Before

Despite all the hoopla and stress, you need to take time to relax and enjoy the days preceding your wedding. This is a special time in your life, so you don't want to be an emotional wreck. You don't want to be physically exhausted either. Realize that no matter how carefully you plan, or despite how many weeks in advance you tend to the details, some things still may not go according to plan. But you will survive, and the day will be wonderful just the same.

Take a few minutes each day to exercise and relax. You may feel too nervous to eat, but eat anyway, as you are going to need all the energy that good nutrition supplies. Go to bed early the night before your wedding. Even if you can’t sleep, your body will be more relaxed and rested.

Ask for help. Whether you hire a wedding planner to take care of all the minute details, or ask a close friend or family member for help, accepting some assistance may help to save your sanity during this busy time.

Share in the responsibilities. It’s your fiancé's wedding, too. No need for you to be in charge of everything. Assign your fiancé tasks that he won’t mind doing. And don't forget to make time for each other. Don’t allow yourselves to become so consumed with all the wedding plans that you no longer do fun things together as often. Even while you are planning your wedding, there is no reason to stop dating.

Talk to a friend when things begin to feel too overpowering. Don’t be afraid to discuss your insecurities and fears. Surround yourself with people who will be helpful and supportive, not those who will stress you out more. If someone is making you tense, politely ask that person to leave. Simply tell the individual that you need some quiet moments to yourself.

Learn to say no. Remember, you only are one person. Don’t feel pressured to take on more than you can handle. Concentrate on those things that are really important. Don’t waste time and energy doing things that really don’t matter. Make the most of your time.

Set aside some time for yourself that has nothing to do with the upcoming wedding. It never hurts to disconnect from the wedding plans for awhile. Soak in a warm, relaxing bath, go to a movie, or get a massage.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Take the time to pamper yourself before the wedding. Allow 3 to 4 hours for yourself. If you feel good about yourself and the way that you look, you likely will feel much more relaxed when all eyes are focused on you, as you walk down the aisle.

    • Don’t drink alcohol to calm your nerves, as that only may make the jitters worse. Take a couple of deep breaths instead.
