Learning how to spend a session at Camp Hanover is a great idea for any parents who would like their children to spend a wonderful summer at a Christian camp. The goals set forth by the camp are simple: spiritual growth of each camper and a strong appreciation of God’s creation through outdoor living. At the same time, each camper is introduced to the principle of the servant-leader model that goes all the way back to the leadership style of Jesus Christ. When you follow these straightforward steps, you will have your camper enrolled to spend a session at Camp Hanover in no time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Access the Camp Hanover website and opt for the Summer Camp Application portion of the site (see Resources).

  2. Step 2

Fill in all the information online. This includes information about the actual camper, the parents, a first and second choice of available camp sessions, emergency contact information and finally some personal facts pertaining to the camper’s maturity, fears, and also special needs the child may have.

  3. Step 3

Submit your payment after entering all of your information. Receive the confirmation letter from Camp Hanover and then download the confirmation package. Print out the forms that are part of this package as you will need to refer to them frequently and also bring a number of them to the camp on registration day.

  4. Step 4

Begin packing all the necessary items. You need to follow the instructions of the “What to bring to camp” list that is part of your confirmation packet very carefully. The instructions are extremely detailed.

  5. Step 5

Make a doctor’s appointment for your little camper and print out the “Health History/Examination Form.” Fill it out completely and have the physician sign if needed. If your child is taking prescription medications, make sure you spell out in detail the dosages, the times the medication needs to be taken, and any other related facts that the camp staff needs to know.

  6. Step 6

Read through the “Participation Agreement” and sign it. Do the same with the “What to Expect Permission Form.”

  7. Step 7

Find the driving directions to camp and take your camper there on the appointed day. Remember to bring with you all the packed items the “What to bring to camp” list requested, the completed “Health History/Examination Form,” and also bring any outstanding funds for the camp fee you may not yet have paid.

  8. Step 8

Arrive at the camp at the predetermined time–you will find out exactly at what time is registration when you receive your confirmation packet—and check in.

  9. Step 9

Attend the health screening next. This is a formality but it provides a final chance for you to discuss any health concerns you or your child may have, especially if they materialized since you registered online.

  10. Step 10

Visit with the unit director to hand in the signed “Participation Agreement” and “What to Expect Permission Form.” At this time you have another chance to verify all of the information you provided at the initial online registration with respect to phone numbers, first and secondary contacts, and anything else you wish the unit director to know.

  11. Step 11

Walk with your camper over to his living quarters where he can get set up. You have an opportunity to get to know the camp counselors who will be working with your child during his stay. If there is any further information you wish to share with the staff, now is the time to do it. Since you most likely exhausted all of the instructions and warnings, it is now time to wish your little one a great time and drive back home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Send a postcard to your child right after dropping him off. Plan ahead and make it a picture postcard of the family including the pets. This is a wonderful gesture that is going to make his first couple of days at camp a lot easier.
  • Do not skip the step that has you filling in the medication information because your camper is older and already knows how to take his medication himself. Err on the side of caution and spell it out in minute detail.
  • Do not pack candy or food. They will be confiscated to prevent any insects from infesting the living quarters.
