Lacrosse is an exciting sport to watch. It's filled with lots of action, running, blood, sweat and tears. Playing lacrosse is quite difficult, among the most difficult aspects is shooting the lacrosse ball to score. It takes not only a great judge of distance but power, aim and timing.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • lacrosse ball
  • net
  • lacrosse stick
  • gloves
  1. Step 1

Hold the stick correctly. Place your bottom hand right above the middle of the stick and your top hand about four inches from the end of the stick. Grip it firmly with your gloves to prevent slippage and remain in complete control of its direction.

  2. Step 2

Twist your body back from your hips so that your waist, hips and torso and shoulders are all backwards as far as possible. This give your the wind up needed to produce the most power and speed possible. This also hides the stick height and positioning from the goalie so that he cannot prepare ahead of time and block your shot.

  3. Step 3

Keep your back hand above your front hand. This basically means keep the butt of the stick slightly higher than the stick end. This will prevent the ball from slipping out the back and will catapult the ball instantly. Also, extend your arms as far as you can. Keep them nearly straight in the twist and then stretch them as far as they will go for the wind around toss. This will essentially push the ball further and with more force.

  4. Step 4

Lift your front elbow. This will prevent you from dropping the ball down as you shoot and allow you to use your elbow as a reference point for aiming. Think of it as a scope to look through and asjust your settings as needed from there. Put all your weight on your back foot.

  5. Step 5

Get ready to shoot. Quickly twist your body back around and transfer your weight forward. Extend your arms and snap your wrists to release the ball. Watch as you ball scores!

Tips & Warnings
  • Twist to hide the stick from the goalie
  • Don't shoot sideways or side-handed as your shots will go wide
