Things You'll Need:

  • Reservations at noted hotels
  • Transportation around Alberta
  • Camera

How to Ghost Hunt in Alberta Canada

  1. Step 1

Get a room at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff. Here you'll find that room 873 is totally missing! You'll notice how the room has been walled over, and the rumor is that an entire family was murdered there! Those who stayed in the room afterwards suffered from ghostly interactions, and a continuously cleaned mirror was always marred by otherworldly fingerprints from a ghost child. Ask employees about the room and some will simply say they are forbidden to speak of it. Spooky!

  2. Step 2
    Boyle

    Boyle

Visit the old cemetery in Boyle, Alberta. This historic cemetery is the final resting place for souls dating back to the 1800's and is literally out in the middle of nowhere. Visitors report crossing the threshold of the grounds and immediately getting chills and experiencing cold spots. The culprit for this otherworldly disruption is unknown. You'll be able to locate the cemetery by finding the church/school that stands in the middle of a field. The cemetery is directly across from it.

  3. Step 3
    Deane House

    Deane House

Check out the Deane House of Calgary. Located at Fort Calgary, this former boarding house has been named a historic home and now houses a popular restaurant. During its run as a boarding house in the late 1920's the house was the site of several unseemly happenings including a suicide and murder. Apparitions, ghostly laughter and moving objects are all reported by staff and visitors so bring your digital recorder to see if you can catch some EVPs! Have lunch there, or reserve a spot for one of their Murder Mystery events!

  4. Step 4

Head out to Grace Hospital in Calgary. The delivery room in the hospital is said to be haunted by Maudine Riley whose family owned the land and who died during childbirth in her home located there. Maudine is said to appear to women giving birth and staff report seeing her cradling her baby, who also perished. Across the street from the hospital you'll see a statue of Maudine and her child--so be kind and pay your respects.

  5. Step 5
    Macdonald Hotel

Make your final stop in Edmonton at the Macdonald Hotel. Guests here report hearing a horse and carriage running through the halls on the top floor! Weird! Take some digital recordings to see if you can capture the sound!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make your reservations early as many of the noted places are tourist favorites and book up early for the summer season.
  • Don't trespass and always be respectful.

on 8/10/2009 I recently visited the Boyle Cemetery, we drove into the cemetery, went and looked at my great-grandmother's grave, came back to the van and my automatic unlock would not work. When we left the cemetery and got back to Boyle it worked again and I have not had any issues since. A ghost playing a trick on me or just a coincidence?
