How to Make a Car Magnet
Making car magnets on your personal computer is easy if you have the right software and a creative flair. Any type of magnet you see on any car can be recreated by anyone with the right software on a personal computer. Expressing yourself is human nature, so do it with a car magnet.

Open the greeting card software program. Any of the templates in the program can be used as a magnet, so just pick your favorite one or be creative and design your own. The most common template to make a magnet is to open a poster template and this way you can create any multiple images on one magnetic sheet.

Design your car magnet to reflect your personal style, choose a good style of lettering. Use can use clipart found on the Internet for car magnets, or simply scan a photo that you have taken into your computer, and importing it to your car magnet project makes for a personal touch. Simply arrange the images on the templates add the lettering and print off.

Print off a regular copy on plain printer paper to make sure things appear fine to you as a hard copy. Change your design if needed and reprint on plain printer paper, by using this paper you are not wasting magnetic sheets

Slide the magnetic sheet of paper into the printer, with the white side down, so that your car magnets printed the correct way. Please note that because of the thickness of magnet sheets, you are only able to feed them in one at a time.

Print the car magnets as usual, using a high DPI setting. Set the entire magnetic sheets aside on a tabletop so they can air-dry for a bit before cutting them. Cut them apart with strong scissors.

You can't buy magnetic paper in the stores that will work for outside use. You also need a special process to melt the ink into vinyl. This artilce is poor. I've made car magnets by printing on glossy photo paper, cutting and then laminating the card with 5x7" laminate, cut the laminate to within 1/4" of the card, throw it back in the laminator one more time, then outline the back with 1" craft magnets from a a roll. Be careful not to cut past where the laminate sheets sealed or water will get in. They last about 3 months before UV light fades the color to where it no longer looks good. You can reuse the magnet, though.

I'm curious, do you need a special ink to print out a magnet that will be out in the elements? Won't regular ink run if it gets wet? Also, I've seen magnetic sheets in the store but are those acceptable for outdoor use? I have a design for our volleyball club that I'd love to print out and use as a car magnet but I just wasn't sure if those regular magnetic sheets and regular ink will work for anything other than putting on my fridge and if they're suitable for outdoor use.
