How to Make Sea Shell Wind Chimes
Wind chimes can offer a charming touch of natural music to your slice of the outdoors. Wind chimes are so simple, however, that they need not be bought out of your local store or nearest available catalogue--instead, you can make them yourself with little trouble. And for those interested in remembering their last trip to the beach, a sea shell wind chime is just the thing. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Collect and wash your shells. As beautiful as they may be in the end, they start out clogged with sand, seaweed and debris. In addition, prepare more shells than you plan to actually use, as some shells may inevitably break later on. Afterwards, leave your shells out to dry.
-
2
Select a seashell, and decide where to drill a small hole: the hole should be located in a thicker portion of the shell, so that the whole thing won't shatter. Place your drill into place, and bore a hole straight through the shell.

3
Cut your lengths of string, at whatever lengths you desire. Thread the string through the holes, and knot securely. Repeat for each shell, feeling free to add multiple shells to each string.
-
4
When you have completed all of your shells, tie the loose ends of the strings to a central item--a stick, a rod, anything--so that all of your shells hang freely. Make sure to tie them close enough to each other than a gentle breeze will knock them together, to create your chime.
-
5
Decorate your wind chime. You can use the leftover or broken shells, to hide the knots.
