How to Cure Dog Diarrhea
Dogs can get diarrhea from eating the wrong foods, being dehydrated, worm infestation and infections. Finding the cause for the diarrhea is essential in treating it and ensuring that there are no recurrences from the same cause. Consult a veterinarian if this is your first case of diarrhea with your dog to determine the cause and treatment plan.
Instructions
-
-
1
Check the fecal matter for worms before using any kind of home treatment.
-
2
Keep your dog hydrated. Add cool, unflavored Pedialyte to your dog's water bowl and give to him every half hour.
-
-
3
Measure out a dosage of Kaopectate liquid in a teaspoon. The normal dose is 3 ml per 10 lbs. of weight. If your dog weighs 15 lbs., measure out 4.5 ml of Kaopectate.
-
4
Insert the tip of the syringe into the teaspoon to withdraw the Kaopectate, and pull on the plunger on the end of the syringe to draw the medication into the tube.
-
5
Insert the syringe into the corner of your dog's mouth, and squirt the medication in by pushing the plunger on the end of the syringe. The taste will make your dog thirsty, so follow up with Pedialyte.
-
6
Give your dog a dose of Kaopectate once every 12 hours until the diarrhea has stopped.
-
7
Check the consistency of your dog's fecal matter for the next 24 hours. If diarrhea persists longer than this, the cause might be an infection and you should consult a vet for help. Continue to administer the Pedialyte for 24 hours, at half-hour intervals.

Tips & Warnings
Keep your Pedialyte in the refrigerator to make it more appetizing.
Do not withhold food from your pet; they need the minerals from the food to help stop the diarrhea.
If you find that worms are present, contact your vet for further instructions.
