Step 1
Decide whether or not you want to do it yourself. You have the choice to either do the following steps yourself or hire someone else to do it for you. Should you decide to do it yourself, you must be diligent and organized. It does take time, but it is well worth it. If you decide to have someone else do the following steps for you, use a reputable company such as Credit Bureau Expertswho only charge if they are able to improve your credit score.

Step 2
So you've decided to do this yourself, now what? Get a copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus. There may be things on one that aren't on another, so you want to make sure you have a really accurate picture of what you need to remove.
-
Step 3
Compose well-written letters to each debt collector/collection agency, challenging them to verify your debt and/or late or non-payments with them by providing proof. If they do not respond within 30 days, they are obligated to immediately remove the negative item from your credit history.
-
Step 4
Keep track of your credit report as it improves. Just because a company sends something in response to your letter concerning verification of the debt, does not mean the item cannot be removed. You can send them a letter challenging them for additional proof. If they can't supply verification, validation of contract, and proof of debt they must take the item off of your credit report.

Step 5
Keep steadfast, it will take time, but you will see a lot of progressive eventually!
