Dirt Bike Getting Air
Dirt Bike Getting Air

What's more fun than riding a dirt bike? Jumping one, of course. Getting air on your dirt bike will take riding to a whole different level, but it should not be taken lightly. It is not for the novice, and should be practiced with caution. Once you've mastered it, however, your riding will be of another caliber. You will now be able to get involved in dirt bike racing, as the tracks contain dirt jumps. The more you work on it the better you'll get, and before you know it you'll be grabbing major air and impressing your friends and family.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dirt bike
  • Dirt jump
  • Helmet and other protective gear
  1. Step 1

Inspect the jump. Get a feel for it by going over it slowly a few times, without jumping. This will ensure that the jump will hold and will not crumble as you try to take off from it.

  2. Step 2

Approach the jump with a lot of speed, building as you get closer to the top.

  3. Step 3

Gas it all the way as you approach the tip of the jump, while compressing the suspension.

  4. Step 4

Decide where you will land while you are in the air, and aim for that spot. Make sure there aren't any divots, rocks, or any other obstructions so you can ensure a clean landing.

  5. Step 5

Land with your weight centered. Try to land on either your back wheel or on both wheels. Landing on your front tire will increase the likelihood of wiping out.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should be in a crouched, almost seated, position over the bike as you jump.
  • Grip the bike with your legs.
  • Keep an even throttle as you go up the jump.
  • Pulling up on your handlebars as you leave the jump will help you get more air over it.
  • Practice on smaller jumps before you try to handle a big one.
  • If it looks like you are going to crash, it is best to land sideways, as landing over the top of your wheel can cause more serious injury, or even death.
  • Performing a jump on a dirt bike can cause serious injury, even death. Make sure that you are wearing the proper protective gear, that you never jump alone, and that you are experienced enough to try this stunt.
