How to Remove the SmitFraud Virus and VirusRescue
If you were a victim of the SmitFraud virus, you may have Virus Rescue installed on your computer. The program may have told you to purchase Virus Rescue to remove the many spyware and virus applications on your computer. SmitFraud shows many fake antivirus and antispyware programs on your computer as screen popups or balloon popups. If your computer has been infected with these fake spyware removal tools, you probably downloaded an infected video codec or accidentally downloaded an infected file from the Internet. Most of the time, you have accidentally installed the Video Access ActiveX Object.

Tips & Warnings
Be very, very careful when using HijackThis, because you can accidentally remove an essential system process from the registry! If you are unsure whether a particular line is a problem, reboot your PC in normal mode and use the "Online HiJackthis Scanner" to determine if a particular file is a threat. You just need to copy and paste your HijackThis log into the scanner and let it analyze it for you.
Never delete anything with Hijackthis until you are absolutely sure exactly what the particular file is and exactly what it does.
