Learn what your child needs. Is your child a beginner or intermediate to advanced levels? Gymnastics equipment can be fairly expensive; therefore, it is best to first asses what your child needs. For example, if your child is beginning to learn how to walk the balance beam, it may be a good investment to purchase a practice balance beam for $200 rather than a real one that can cost thousands of dollars. Furthermore, for beginners, the best equipment would be a floor mat or a practice balance beam. For intermediate gymnasts, a trampoline may be a good piece of equipment for them to practice tumbles and acrobatic moves. For advanced gymnasts, a vault, pommel horse and parallel or uneven bars may be a worthwhile investment, especially for competitive gymnasts.

Go to your local gymnastics equipment retail shop. You can ask the local gymnastics coach where you can purchase gymnastics equipment. Chances are the distributors of the gymnastics equipment at the place you go to for lessons may cut you a deal on their equipment for your personal use. Don't be afraid to use your connections to ask where you can get the best prices for your gymnastics equipment.
