Lots of kids love collecting rocks, so give them something to truly enjoy and collect when you hide these beautiful wax creations in their rooms or in the garden. While you have to be careful that they do not leave the rocks somewhere hot to melt, this craft is sure to be fun for you and for your kids.

    Things You'll Need

    • Rocks with smooth sides
    • Oven
    • Baking sheet
    • Crayons
    • Stack of newspapers

        Collect rocks with flat sides from your garden or buy a collection of river rocks at a craft store, a home improvement store, or an aquarium store.

        Place the rocks on a baking sheet and preheat the oven to 225 degrees.

        Bake the rocks for 15 minutes so that they will be hot enough to melt wax.

        Use a mitt to move the rocks to the workspace covered with several layers of newspaper.

        Hold a crayon to a rock until the wax starts to melt, and swirl it around with other puddles of melted wax to create the colorful swirly look.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Older children may enjoy this craft, but younger kids should be kept away from the hot rocks.
