  1. How to Feather Dust Your Walls

    • 1

With just a few simple and inexpensive tools, feather dusting can make any plain wall stand out and look spectacular. You’ll need to decide what colors you’d like to make your base paint, as well as your feather dusting colors. You can go with 2 colors or as many as you want. On our walls, we chose a light blue base paint with navy and creme colors as the feathering.

Paint your walls with your base paint over properly prepared walls. Make sure your walls are dry before you proceed to the feather dusting.

    • 3

Have available a few feather dusters, newspaper and paper plates as well as any other tools you normally paint with such as a paint stirrer. You can't reuse the feather dusters so make sure to have more than one on hand. It usually takes 4-5 feather dusters to do an average 10 x 10 room so buy accordingly. Fortunately, feather dusters are very inexpensive and the quality isn't important as long as the feathers stay in and the colors don't bleed.

Prepare your feather duster by making sure that you shake and spread the feathers apart. You don’t want any stray feathers sticking to your paint. Always make sure the feather duster you bought is color fast because you don’t want the feather colors bleeding into your paint. If you can find a white feather duster, that would be best but most colors will work fine.

    • 5

Pour a small amount of paint into a paper plate. Dip your feather duster into the paint lightly and use the newspaper to spread any excess paint before you go to your wall. Once you have a wet feather duster but not dripping, dab the feather duster on the wall and twist, making a circular type motion. This part is up to you. You can just dab, make the twisting motion or any other type of design you want.

After the first feather dusting application is dry, you can then decide if you want to go ahead and do the second feather dusting color. You would need an unused feather duster to apply the second color and so forth.

    • 7

No two walls will be alike so the sky is the limit in design work when feather dusting.
