Unrequited love can be the single hardest thing one has to accept in this life. It can feel like a poison, and it has led to all kinds of tragedies the world over. However, you can take control of your life, even if an unrequited love has taken over almost everything else about it.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to the object of your affection. Be clear about your feelings and leave nothing unsaid. If the rejection is still solid and unmoving, let her know that you love her. Let her know that you understand and truly commit to letting her go. Tell her you are going to move on and say goodbye in as dignified way as possible. This is a very difficult situation for both of you, and you want to leave it with your pride intact.

  2. Step 2

Fall in love with yourself. It may sounds silly, but you have had a relationship with yourself for a long time now. It is going to go on for the rest of your life. Make the most of your potential, and get to know all of the great things that others should fall in love with.

  3. Step 3

Develop your interests that fall to the wayside when in a relationship. Perhaps you love sports or hiking, or maybe you've always wanted to learn how to surf. Go after the things you've never dared to try. Throwing yourself into a new passion can help the other passion subside a bit every day. You will also meet new friends when trying these new activities. Be careful to not present yourself as a grieving mess over your lost love if you want to make friends, though.

  4. Step 4

Start flirting when you go out with your friends. However, do not jump into a situation in which you can be crushed again so soon after a break-up, but innocent flirting at a bar can do wonders for your self-esteem. You may meet some new girls to keep as friends in this way, and it is good for your confidence when you eventually pursue the true girl of your dreams.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep a positive attitude when possible. If you truly love someone, you want her to be happy no matter what it takes, even letting her go. Possession is not love. Keep your true feelings in check by asking if you truly love her and want her happiness.
  • Don't let another crush be a substitute for your unrequited love. Truly work through your feelings of disappointment before trying to move on in dating or relationships. Never follow or watch your unrequited love without her knowledge. This may not only be illegal, but it is creepy. It can lead you down a slippery slope of unhealthy behavior. You should stop yourself immediately if you get the urge to do irrational things in the pursuit of your love.
