Clean and sparkling jewelry accessories are a must for any woman of fashion, but more importantly clean jewelry can last longer. Cleaning your jewelry will keep dirt from causing scratches and loosening the gems. Proper jewelry care also includes storage of rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and other accessories in a jewelry box lined with soft cloth and padding.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm water
  • Cold water
  • 2 bowls
  • Dish soap
  • Baking soda
  • Measuring spoons
  • Very soft bristled toothbrush
  • Soft cotton cloth

    Making the Jewelry Cleaner

  1. Step 1

    Fill a first bowl with warm water.

  2. Step 2

    Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda.

  3. Step 3

    Add two drops of dish soap to the warm water and baking soda solution.

  4. Step 4

    Stir the solution slightly.

  5. Step 5

    Fill the second bowl with cold water.

  6. Use the Homemade Jewelry Cleaner

  7. Step 1

    Soak your gold and silver jewelry in the bowl with the warm water solution.

  8. Step 2

    Remove the jewelry one piece at a time and clean it with a very soft bristled toothbrush.

  9. Step 3

    Rinse the jewelry in the cold water bowl.

  10. Step 4

    Dry and shine the jewelry with soft cotton cloth.

  11. Step 5

    Place it in a jewelry box for proper storage.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best type of toothbrush to use is a baby toothbrush. You can find them in any local grocery store, and usually they are labeled for 1 to 3 years of age.
  • Make sure your drying cloth is made of 100% cotton or other soft materials that will not have a chance to scratch the metal as you rub it dry.
  • Rub in one directing for dual purpose of drying and shining.
  • Do not clean pearls and other soft jewelry in this solution, only gold, silver and hard gemstones.
  • Do not put too much baking soda in the solution at the risk of scratching the jewelry.
