1
Master a jumping back flip. The back flip is a difficult trick, whether you are jumping or staying on the ground to start. Because jumping is easier, it is important that you learn how to do a back flip while jumping before attempting to do one without.
-
2
Stand on a soft surface. It is important to find a soft mat or cushion before attempting this trick. Standing on something soft will lessen the impact if you happen to fall doing this stunt.
-

3
Practice throwing your arms back. While standing in place, practice throwing your arms over your head as fast as possible. This will be your momentum when you flip, so it is important to practice before you start.
-
4
Practice arching your back. In order to get full rotation in the air, you will need to arch your back. Practice doing this before doing your back flips so you will know how it is supposed to feel when you are in the air.
-
5
Practice the skills of Steps 3 and 4 together. Before attempting the back flip, put the arm motion and the arching of the back together while standing still. This way you will know exactly what to do while you are in the air.
-
6
Do your back flip. Standing flat footed, throw your arms over your head and let yourself come off the ground. Arch your back as you come off the ground and tuck your feet to your body to complete your rotation.
-
7
Land the flip. After you have turned backwards 360 degrees, bring your feet out of the tuck and land on the mat.
