It is very important to wear the proper size condom. Condoms that are too large can come off easily and condoms that are too small can easily break. The better your condom fits, the safer your sex is.
Determine what you want. The first thing you need to do is understand what you want from a condom. It may be as simple as being safe and comfortable and, if so, that will make your decision that much easier. However, you have someone else to take into consideration so choices such as lubricated, ribbed, and what type of material are all things to consider.
Step2
Try some out. The easiest way to figure out what you like is to find out what you don’t like. Try out some condoms. The simplest thing to do is go to Planned Parenthood and get a little bit of everything. There will be a nominal charge, but finding the right size condom will be worth it. By yourself or with the help of a partner, try some condoms on. It should be snug at the base, but not tight. Follow the instructions on the wrapper, if there are any.
Step3
Figure out what you like. Once you get comfortable with the idea, it should be easy to figure out what you like and what you don’t. Most people find the one kind of condom they are most comfortable with and tend to stick with it. Make sure you don’t try only one brand, however, because there are distinct differences.
Step4
Get what you need. Most everyone knows that Trojan makes the Magnum, a larger-sized condom. Be warned, however, that if it does not fit properly, it can be of no more use than no condom at all. Durex also produces a large condom that is smaller than the Magnum, but larger than average. Kimono and Beyond Seven both make smaller size condoms, which are widely available. The average size of every brand’s standard condom tends to vary a little bit, so give yourself permission to branch out until you find what you like. Ultra or ‘sensitive’ condoms tend to be thinner, which means they can break easier. Polyurethane is a latex alternative, which makes it safe with oil-based products, and it conducts body heat better. Make sure to shop around before you settle for a condom you’re only sort of comfortable with.
