How to Plan an Indoor Scavenger Hunt

When kids are stuck indoors, sometimes even the best video game or the most interesting book isn’t enough to keep them entertained. It’s even worse when the weather is horrible and they don’t have the option of going outside. When boredom strikes and the kids are home and antsy to do something fun and different, have an indoor scavenger hunt. Not only is it easy to do, but it also will keep the kids busy and entertained for awhile. All you need to do is just a little bit of planning. Here is how to plan your indoor scavenger hunt.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down a list for the scavenger hunt. Considering that the scavenger hunt will be indoors, chances are there aren’t going to be enough of the same items to collect. Instead consider writing down things for the child to do or information for them to collect. They can write down a line from a book or spin around once in a chair on wheels. The rest of the list can be made up of items for them to collect if you know that you have more than one of that item such as collecting a napkin from the kitchen. Assign points for every item that they complete or collect. Also have a certain number of points planned to deduct from their total if they return without all of their items on the list.

    • 2

Make up two teams of kids or even one child that is going to be competing against another child. Explain to them how the scavenger hunt works and make sure that they understand all of the rules before the scavenger hunt starts. Make sure to give them the ending spot for the scavenger hunt along with how long they have to complete the list. Give each team the list of the things that they need to do or of items that they need to collect.

    • 3

Give each team some form of a video camera that they can use to record the things that they have to do on their scavenger hunt. Even if you don’t have two video cameras, many cell phones or digital cameras have a camcorder option that they can use.

Plan a prize for each of the teams for finishing so that each team is rewarded for doing a great job. Also plan a special additional prize for the winner of the scavenger hunt that finished in the fastest time and had the most points.
