Instructions

    • 1

Determine the type of homemade ear gauges you want to make. You can choose to create gauge plugs, swirls and curls out of clay. The easiest of these is a standard plug.

    • 2

Measure your old jewelry to find the appropriate gauge.

    • 3

Shape your clay into the desired pattern. Layering two thin sheets of Fimo clay on top of each other, then rolling them up will create a swirl.

    • 4

Roll the clay into a snake-like shape against a smooth surface. Create texture with clay tools, if desired.

    • 5

Compare the width and length of your clay piece to your old jewelry, and cut the clay at the desired place to form your new gauge plugs.

    • 6

Bake your Fimo in an oven at 230 degrees F for 30 minutes.

    • 7

Allow your new plugs to fully cool, then try them on. Use O-gauge-rings to hold the homemade ear gauges in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fimo doesn't dry out like other clay, so you can remold it many times before baking.

  • Don't wear homemade jewelry in freshly stretched piercings. Wait at least six weeks after a new stretch before putting in the Fimo jewelry.
