Draw Thumper from Bambi

Thumper had many unique sayings in “Bambi,” which is why he is a great philosophy tool and memorable Disney character. With saying such as “eating greens is a special treat; it makes long ears and great big feet,” and “if you can’t say nuttin’ nice, don’t say nuttin’ at all,” Thumper can be used as a tool to encourage children to eat their veggies and help people keep their mouths shut at critical periods. With this easy tutorial, anyone can draw Thumper and maybe even create a plaque or card with his fun and memorable sayings.

Instructions

  1. Drawing Thumper

    • 1

Draw three circles. The first circle should be large and connected to a circle below it that looks like an egg on its side. Connect those two circles with two lines on either side. The third circle should be to the lower left, about 2/8 of a centimeter away from the second circle that was drawn.

    • 2

Connect the second and third circle you drew with two lines located on either side (back and tummy lines). Next, add a half circle to the top left of the third circle you drew, with the start line beginning where the back and third circle meet, ending 3/4s of the way down on the third drawn circle. Next, add another half circle below the second circle you drew that ends 3/4s of the way down on the tummy line.

    • 3

On the second circle you drew, add an oval on the left side. After you draw the oval, add a circle to the bottom of it, then, add a column. On the bottom right corner of the second circle you drew in step one (the circle in the middle), add a half oval. This half oval will represent Thumper's foot. To the left of the third circle you drew in step one, add another half oval. This half oval will be Thumper's tail. Also, connect the bottom parts of the first and second circle with a curving line.

    • 4

Go back to the very first circle you drew. Add a circle within a circle to the right center of the circle; this is Thumper’s nose. Now add two “snakes” to the left of the first circle; these are Thumper’s ears.

    • 5

Follow your guidelines and begin drawing out Thumper’s body. The guidelines serve as Thumper’s bones; you’re just adding the flesh. As you trace around your guidelines, feel free to add fur spots and features. At this stage, I added toes, ears, fur, and a fuzzy tail, you may add whatever you like.

After you add Thumper’s “flesh,” you can now add his other features. Because of the way Thumper is facing, he only has one eye showing in this image, so be sure to add only one eye. Make sure you give Thumper his teeth, tongue, and cheeks. After you complete his internal 2-D features, you may now color.

Use several layers while coloring, so that way if you feel you made a mistake, you can easily erase from one layer instead of trying to avoid erasing large sections. Remember, save often, as well, because programs can close randomly.
