Arranging silk flowers is much harder than it seems. Just sticking stems into a vase without careful planning will leave you with a mess rather than something beautiful. This article will tell you how to properly arrange silk flowers.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Silk flowers
  • Vase
  • Optional vase filler such as marbles or pebbles
  • Wire cutter
  • Floral picks
  • Hot glue gun
  1. Step 1

Choose a container to use as your vase. If you are going to create a large arrangement, make sure that it is a heavy enough container to hold your flowers. Consider if you want a tall, skinny arrangement or a shorter, wide arrangement.

  2. Step 2

Decide what you want to use to hold up your flowers. Some arrangements utilize floral foam, but others use clay. Clay is heavier and is better used with larger flower arrangements. Place your foam or clay into the container, and cover it with moss or other decorative material such as colored glass, marbles, or use pebbles for a more natural look.

  3. Step 3

Invest in a good wire cutter. Even though your flowers are silk, you will still need to adjust their height by cutting the stems. Silk flowers have stems made of wire, so you will need a wire cutter.

  4. Step 4

Before inserting your flowers into the foam or clay, try to imagine what you want your arrangement to look like. Keep in mind that the larger flowers will be your focal point, and all other flowers and leaves should accent the focal flowers.

  5. Step 5

Adjust your flowers, and the length of the stems. Use the wire cutter to cut the stems shorter, or attach floral picks to lengthen stems that are too short. Bend the flowers so that they are facing the way you want them to face.

  6. Step 6

Insert your flowers into the foam or clay. Step back as you arrange so you can see gaps or colors that do not work well together. Bend leaves and flowers to fill in gaps, or use smaller stems to add volume. If a flower comes off, use a glue gun to re-attach it. Consider adding ribbon or seasonal items, such as small pumpkins, to enhance your arrangement.

Tips & Warnings
  • Subdued colors and simple arrangements look more natural. For a bold statement, use vibrant colors in an elaborate container, and place in the middle of an otherwise empty table.
  • Keep hot glue guns away from children.
