If working independently, remember full training. Don't spend two hours on upper body and ignore the lower body. Balance out the training so all muscles are being strengthened. Also, find a training regimen and follow it.

Strengthen the core. The core of the body includes the muscles in the back and of course the abdominal muscles. Building these areas of muscles is similar to having a strong foundation on the house, it is crucial for the function of the body. Core muscles control movement and support the spine. Equipment used to work the core are medicine balls, kettle belts and dumb bells. If there is no equipment movements such as squats, back extensions and lunges will work the core muscles.

Don't forget the cardio. Being able to bench press 300 lbs. might look great, but if the cardio system is weak, the fourth quarter is going to be a failure. Working on cardio is crucial creating a higher endurance and allowing the body to function after long hours of contact. The best cardio is runnning, get out those running shoes and head off for a jog. Jogging is also a tremendous lower body workout, building strength in the legs.

Sign up for a cardio class at the local gym. For most guys, it is more manly to stand around the weight room and talk about how much you can bench press, but the fact is down the hall there is sure to be an instructor pushing their class through some very intense workout. Find one that weaves strength building and cardio and sign up for it, the results will be surprising.
