Throw pillows add style and color to any room. They provide the marvelous opportunity to tie color schemes together or to simply add a touch of your favorite color without over-powering the room. Not only are they beautiful, they are functional, too. Creating a grouping of throw pillows in varying styles and sizes is easy if you make them yourself.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose the fabric you would like for your pillows. This is a great time to add a touch of your favorite color. For a bit of excitement, choose wild patterns in bright colors. Bold geometric designs are great. For a more homey feel, choose fabric that is soft and smooth in rich earthy tones.

  2. Step 2

Decide what size you would like your pillows to be, but don't limit yourself to just one size. Try pairing small intimate pillows with big bold ones. Mix and match colors, sizes and textures that suit you.

  3. Step 3

Cut two squares of fabric that are about two inches larger than the finished project. If you wish to create big, puffy pillows, add another inch or two.

  4. Step 4

Sew the front and back of the pillow together with the right sides of the fabric facing each other. Sew around all four side, leaving a 4 inch section open.

  5. Step 5

Turn the pillow in-side-out through the hole. Use your hands to gently pull the fabric through the hole.

  6. Step 6

Stuff with generous amounts of fiberfill. Fill until the pillow is as puffy as you desire. Use a pencil or dowel to push the fiberfill into the corners.

  7. Step 7

Sew the hole closed using a needle and thread or sew it closed using the sewing machine and employing a top stitch.

  8. Step 8

Experiment with different sizes to create one of a kind pillows just begging to be cuddled.
