Call your broker and express your interest in investing in the biotech sector. They should be able to give you their reccomendations. If you invest on your own using an online brokerage, research using the brokerage site or your preferred search engine to find the stock you want to invest in.

For this example, say you reasearched "biotechnology companies" and have decided to buy stock in Genentech, a large U.S. based biotechnology firm.

If using a broker, simply ask to invest a certain amount in Genentech. Your broker should advise on whether they think that is a reasonable investment or not.

If using your own online brokerage account, navigate to the trade page and then click on the "Buy stock" button. Input the ticker symbol for Genentech, "DNA." You should then be asked how many shares you want to buy or, alternatively, how much money you want to invest. Check the current market price on your preferred financial website to determine the amount per share.

Click on buy with a "Market order" for the simplest kind of trade. A market order must be made while the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) is open and normal trade is taking place. You should receive confirmation that you have bought that number of shares of Genetech.
