How to Disinfect a Dorm Room

Moving into a dorm is always an exciting time. But sometimes when that dorm isn't properly disinfected, you can become exposed to germs. Because relying on the staff housecleaning isn't always a good idea, find out how to disinfect your own dorm room. Does this Spark an idea?

      Spray all surfaces with a disinfectant spray such as Lysol or a similar product. Make sure to spray surfaces such as door knobs, bed frames, chairs, sinks, vanity areas and desks.

      After spraying the mattresses with disinfectant, also use an odor-control spray to rid the mattress of any smells that may be trapped. Also use a mattress cover to shield the mattress if the sheet happens to come up at night.

      Sweep the floor before mopping it with a floor detergent. Steer clear of putting wall-to-wall carpet on the floor to keep the carpet from holding stains and other germs.

      Turn on the shower and wet the floor of the shower or tub. Put down a powder cleanser for 20 minutes and then scrub everything clean. Spray the walls of the shower with an all-purpose cleaner. Finish the sink and vanity area with a cleanser scrub and wipe everything down. Spray everything with an antibacterial spray and let surfaces air dry.

      You are now ready to move into the dorm. Take care to clean the dorm once a week to keep germs at bay.
