Step 1
Women who are over 40 years old, who are uninsured or under insured, and live under 30% above poverty level may qualify for help through state funding. Programs are usually ran through the counties health department.
-
Step 2
If your insurance company does not pay for mammograms or if you have a high detectable you can contact the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) or the National Cancer Institute (cancer.gov) for participating Health Care Facilitates that provide a mammogram at cost.
-
Step 3
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month any many hospitals offer special rates to raise awareness during this month. Take advantage.
-
Step 4
If you just can not afford a mammogram do not just avoid it. Do not be embarrassed to tell your doctor why you can not get one. Hospitals and other health care organizations receive grants and other private funding yearly to help out individual people. If your Doctor believes you need a mammogram he can probably find funding within a few phone calls.
