Indie is short for independent rock, a genre that is out of the mainstream. Along with the music, indie fashion is a way to set yourself apart from the crowd. Like your music, dressing indie shows the world that you are not a commercial product but an individual. Dressing indie is a fun and inexpensive way of defining your individuality and all it takes is a little imagination and a few key pieces for your wardrobe.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Buy clothes from indie designers. Indie fashion looks like it comes from the thrift store but it really comes from independent boutiques although indie fashions can now be found in some mainstream clothing chains.

  2. Step 2

Cut your hair short and dye it dark black or light blonde. Style it in short and spiky with long bangs that fall in your eyes.

  3. Step 3

Pierce your nose, eyebrows and ears and wear lots of different earrings.

  4. Step 4

Wear lots of jewelry. Clunky plastic and silver chains work best.

  5. Step 5

Wear tight jeans, preferably black, never cuffed. Tight jeans look good with work books or faded high-tops.

  6. Step 6

Fade your concert T-shirts by washing them in hot water a few times.

  7. Step 7

Purchase thick horn-rimmed glasses in plastic frames. Wearing glasses is cool, whether you need them or not.

  8. Step 8

Wear lots of dark eye make-up. Black eyeliner is a must for girls or guys.
