How to Dress Emo in the Summer
Stemming from as early as the 1980s, Emo ("emotional hardcore") first burst on the scene via Washington D.C. hardcore punk bands like Beefeater and Fire Party. Later emerging in the 1990s, Emo made a comeback in a more mellow style with bands like Texas is the Reason. Now more than just a form of music, Emo has become a full-fledged lifestyle. But come the warm weather of summer, it can be difficult to continue to wear skin-tight black from head to toe. Here are suggestions on how to stay Emo without melting in the heat. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use accessories. Go for a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses, even if you don't need them. A studded belt will also indicate your Emo style. If you are especially brave, try facial piercings like an eyebrow ring or one right below your lip.

2
Get the right hair style. For cut, choose a short length with bangs. If gets really hot and you feel your bangs sticking to your forehead, you can always sweep them to the side or pin them back. For color, choose a dramatic shade. Black is usually most popular, but other extreme hues look Emo too, like "suicide" blond or bright orange.

3
Carry around a messenger bag, and pin some buttons from your favorite Emo bands.
-
4
Give up your usual track jacket for message tees with arbitrary sayings. Hit up vintage shops and thrift stores for original finds.
-
5
Go for blue and gray instead of black when choosing clothes, and wear styles that are form-fitting but not super tight. Save your black skinny jeans for colder months!
