Buying a mobile for your baby's nursery can be quite expensive. It may also be difficult to find a mobile that fits perfectly with your nursery decor. One solution is to make your own mobile. You can choose exactly what theme and color scheme to use.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dowel rod
  • Plastic tube
  • Heavy duty string
  • Object to tie to mobile
  1. Step 1

Purchase a long dowel rod (about three feet long) to use as a support for the mobile's crosspiece.

  2. Step 2

Affix the dowel rod to the side of the crib in view of the baby.

  3. Step 3

Use a piece of plastic tube as the crosspiece. Do not use anything sharp!

  4. Step 4

Tie a heavy duty string to the middle of the plastic tube. Hang the tube by tying the other end of the string to the dowel rod that is already affixed to the crib.

  5. Step 5

Tie smaller pieces of string to the each end of the plastic tube.

  6. Step 6

Tie small objects to these strings.

  7. Step 7

Tie other small objects the length of the plastic tube. Be sure that the tube maintains its balance.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can tie booties, infant toys and rattles or any infant safe toy.
  • You can tie a few objects to the mobile and change them often. This will help to maintain your baby's interest.
  • Be sure that all objects are tied securely to the mobile.
  • Be sure that the mobile is out of baby's reach to avoid injury or choking.
