Making it Happen
-
1
The greet. As soon as your table is sat and situated, make your way over to the table. Extend a warm smile and a friendly greeting welcoming your guests to the restaurant. Be sure to tell them your name to make their dining experience a more personal one.
-
2
The specials. Here is your chance to sell the menu. Whether there are daily specials or unique, one-of-a-kind entrees, be sure to let your guests know what is available to them. Single out an item or two (this could be an appetizer or an entree) to recommend--maybe it is one of the most popular entrees or maybe it is one of your personal favorites.

3
The drinks. Be sure to recommend a house wine or a specialty drink. After you have done this, take the drink order for everyone at the table. Prepare the drinks in a timely fashion and return with them as soon as possible to see if anyone has any questions about anything on the menu.
-
4
The food. After everyone has been given a drink, it is time to take the rest of the order. Start with appetizers and salads and then the entrees. Be sure to give priority to the women at the table when taking the order as common courtesy.
-
5
The wait. While the food for your guests is being prepared, be sure to keep them happy. Refill all drinks whenever they are nearing the halfway mark. Offer another glass of wine or a drink if someone is finishing theirs before the food arrives. Also, be sure that all appetizers and salads make their way to the table as soon as possible so your guests will have them finished by the time the entrees are read.
-
6
The meal. Bring out all the entrees at one time so your guests can begin their meal together. Check back in one minute to make sure all meats were cooked properly and that everything turned out according to their wishes. Give your guests some space to enjoy their food and each other's company but also keep an eye out for any kind of needs they may have while dining.
-
7
The sweets. After it appears that most people are through eating, offer up your best dessert. If no one has saved room for chocolate cake or tiramisu, that is your cue that your guests are finished with their dining experience.
-
8
The check. Bring out the check and place it in the middle of the table, as to not jump to any conclusions about who is paying. Check back frequently to see if your guests have put down payment. When they do, be sure to take care of the bill and return it promptly. Now you can thank your guests for coming and invite them to come again.
