How to Make a Quinceanera Pillow
A quinceanera pillow serves a practical and a decorative function, since it’s often used as a kneeling pillow during the ceremony. It can also serve as a keepsake afterward. Quinceanera pillows are often made from satin or other beautiful white fabric, and have ruffled edges or ribbon trim, often in the recipient’s favorite color. For an extra special touch, you may want to hand or machine embroider the recipient’s name, the number 15 or a design such as a heart, roses or butterflies on the pillow. Or, you can purchase an iron-on appliqué or use iron-on transfer paper to add a name or design. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions
-
-
1
Cut two pieces of white fabric, both the same size and about 1 inch larger than you want the finished pillow. Quinceanera pillows can be square, rectangular or heart shaped.
-
2
Decorate one piece of fabric with an embroidered name or design, or use an iron-on appliqué or transfer. Make sure to leave the outer edge plain, since it will get sewn into the pillow.
-
-
3
Place the pieces of fabric right sides together and pin them together.
-
4
Stitch around the edges of the pillow using 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving an opening about four inches long. You can use a sewing machine or a hand sewing stitch such as the backstitch.
-
5
Turn the pillow right side out. Fill the pillow tightly with stuffing.
-
6
Turn the edges of the opening to the inside and pin them together. Stitch the edges of the opening together using a sewing machine or a hand whipstitch.
-
7
Cut a piece of lace, ruffled trim or ribbon long enough to wrap around the edges of the quinceanera pillow.
-
8
Pin the trim to the edge of the pillow. You may want to use several layers of trim, such as a layer of lace with a colored ribbon on top.
-
9
Stitch the trim to the quinceanera pillow using a sewing machine, or a hand sewing stitch such as the whipstitch.
