A belly dancing skirt can easily be made from a skirt that you already have in your closet. With some alterations to the skirt, you'll be ready to belly dance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skirt Made of Flowing Material
  • Sewing Machine
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Cloth Marking Pen
  • Beads or Other Decoration

    The Top of the Skirt

  1. Step 1

Choose a skirt, preferably short and made of cotton or another flowing material; it should not be tight.

  2. Step 2

Try on the skirt to check where the waistline sits. For belly dancing, you need a skirt that sits low on your hips.

  3. Step 3

If the skirts sits too high, mark the skirt with a cloth marking pen to indicate where your hips are.

  4. Step 4

Cut the skirt so that it rests at your hips, not over them.

  5. Step 5

Hem the top of the skirt.

  6. Step 6

If need be, add a button or fastener so that the skirt stays on.

  7. The Bottom of the Skirt

  8. Step 1

    Put on the skirt.

  9. Step 2

With the cloth marking pen, mark where you would like the skirt to end. You can make it as short as you like, but not longer than knee-length.

  10. Step 3

Cut the skirt to the appropriate length.

  11. Step 4

    Hem the skirt.

  12. Finishing Touches

  13. Step 1

Check both hems to make sure they are even.

  14. Step 2

Try on the skirt to make sure it fits.

  15. Step 3

If the skirt fits well and needs no further alterations, add beads or other decorative touches so that it sparkles or even makes noise when you are belly dancing.
