Drain and refill the pool every year with fresh water. This will make it easier to get a fresh start every summer on keeping the pool in good working order.

2
Check the chlorine and alkaline levels regularly. Not having enough chlorine in the pool will encourage algae and bacteria to grow in the pool. If not kept up, your beautiful pool may end up looking more like a pond before too long. To keep it maintained, you may want to shock the pool with a higher concentration of chlorine on a weekly basis. Use two bags of shock at the beginning of the season. You may want to shock the pool at least once during the middle of the summer season.

3
Vacuum the pool regularly. Sediments and other debris may fall to the bottom of your pool. Regular cleaning with a pool vacuum will help keep the water clear. Go slow and do a thorough job for best results. Going too fast will just churn up any sediments that have settled to the bottom.

4
Check the pool filters. The pool filter is designed to catch dirt and debris to keep it from being recirculated back into your pool. If this gets too dirty, it will affect how well the pump is working and how clear the water stays. Check it on a weekly basis, or more often if you think it may be necessary.

5
Skim the surface. Leaves and other debris may fall into your pool. Skim the surface with the leaf skimmer on an as needed basis.
-
6
Use a pool cover or screen. To keep falling debris from getting out of control, use a cover over the pool. This is especially recommended if the pool sits under trees.
