Step 1
Read the instructions that come with your musical keyboard. Since every musical keyboard is different, one can not generalize the way one can use their musical keyboard. The instructions that are included with your musical keyboard will often tell you the different modes which you can use to create different sounds, in addition to the traditional piano sound.

Step 2
Practice using the correct hand formation when you are playing the keyboard with the traditional piano sounds. Even if you are not generating the traditional sound of the piano with your keyboard, it is always a good idea to use correct hand formation and fingering just to get in the habit of doing so. You should have your hands and fingers rounded or curved as you place them on the keys. Imagine a tunnel going through your hands, there should be enough space between your thumb and your fingers for this imaginary tunnel. Generally, you would want to put your right hand thumb on the middle C of the keyboard and your left pinkie finger on the next "C" note below the one your right hand is on.

Step 3
Hook up your musical keyboard to your computer. With today's technology you can use your musical keyboard and transfer the music onto your computer. You can even manipulate the sounds and even the timing of the music you play on the keyboard. Make sure your computer has the appropriate software.
