How to Underline Text Using HTML Codes

HTML--Hypertext Markup Language--is a computer language that is used to create web pages. Websites and web pages are written in HTML code. Whether you are setting up a personal or a business web page, learning HTML code can be very beneficial. Knowing how to use the codes can help you manipulate your page settings. HTML documents contain plain text and have the extension .html or .htm. You can underline text in your documents to place emphasis on wording. This guide will teach you how to underline text using HTML.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start your word processor or text editor that you will use to create your web page.

  2. Step 2

    Type <U> in front of the text that you wish to underline.

  3. Step 3

    Type </U> after the text you wish to underline. Your text should look like the example below.<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>This is your text</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><P>This is your text.</P><P><U>This is your text be underlined.</U></P></BODY>

  4. Step 4

    Open a new web browser and display your new heading. Ensure that the underlined text meets your approval.

  5. Step 5

    Type <STRIKE> in front of your text if you wish to use a line to strike out your text.

  6. Step 6

    Type </STRIKE> after the text that you are striking out. Your text should look like this: <P><STRIKE>This is your strikeout text.</STRIKE></P>

  7. Step 7

    Display your page in your web browser.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful that you do not make your underlined text look like a hyperlink.
