This stitch requires a knowledge of how to do a knit and a purl stitch. Here how you can create a beautiful wave design for any piece.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yarn
  • Knitting needles
  1. Step 1

    Choose the yarn you want to work with and needles that match the weight of your yarn (see yarn packaging for needle size suggestions).

  2. Step 2

    Cast on your stitches in multiples of 8 plus 1 in your preferred method of casting on. For example, 8 times 4 equals 32, then add 1 to the result to come up with 33 stitches.

  3. Step 3

    Row 1: (Right Side) Purl 1, Knit 7, repeat last 8 stitches to the last stitch, Purl 1Row 2: Knit 2, Purl 5, Knit 3, repeat last 8 stitches until 7 stitches remain, Purl 5, Knit 2Row 3: Purl 3, Knit 3, Purl 5, repeat last 8 stitches until 6 stitches remain, Knit 3, Purl 3Row 4: Knit 4, Purl 1, Knit 7, repeat last 8 stitches until 5 stitches remain, Purl 1, Knit 4Row 5: Knit 1, Purl 7, repeat last 8 stitches to the last stitch, Knit 1Row 6: Purl 2, Knit 5, Purl 3, repeat last 8 stitches until 7 stitches remain, Knit 5, Purl 2Row 7: Knit 3, Purl 3, Knit 5, repeat last 8 stitches until 6 stitches remain, Purl 3, Knit 3Row 8: Purl 4, Knit 1, Purl 7, repeat last 8 stitches until 5 stitches remain, Knit 1, Purl 4

  4. Step 4

    Repeat these 8 rows until your piece reaches desired length.

  5. Step 5

    Bind off, preferably using the basic bind-off.

  • This is a great fun stitch that adds texture to any piece such as a blanket, blanket squares, dishcloth or scarf.
