How to Install a Rifle Scope

Rifle scopes are a useful tool for hunting and competitive shooting. This guide will help you install a scope on your rifle.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Rifle vice (to hold rifle)
  • Rings
  • Base
  • Scope
  • Screwdriver
  • Scope ring alignment tool

Installing Your Scope

Step1
Make sure rifle is unloaded.
Step2
Clean drilled and tapped holes on the receiver.
Step3
Pre-fit new bases on the receiver of rifle.
Step4
Using the supplied screws, attach the base to the receiver. Check to make sure screws are not too long. If screws protrude into the rifle action, it will not let the bolt operate properly.
Step5
Install the saddle of the rings on the bases. Do not install the caps yet.
Step6
Align the rings with the scope ring alignment tool. If they do not line up, it will cause stress on the scope.
Step7
Install the scope into the saddle of the rings, and then install ring caps.
Step8
Torque screws on the ring caps. Bore sight your rifle, and you are ready to sight in your rifle and shoot.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot align your rings, you should contact your local firearms dealer or gunsmith to finish your installation.
  • Some dealers will attach your scope to your rifle for free or a small fee if you purchase your scope in their store.
