Draw Perpendicular Lines in Geometry

Perpendicular lines are similar to intersecting lines, however, they intersect to form a right angle. You'll need a protractor to make sure your lines form a right angle. Once you learn this simple equation, you can continue to progress your geometry skills.

Instructions

  1. How to Draw Perpendicular Lines in Geometry

    • 1

Take a ruler and draw a line.

    • 2

Use your protractor to draw another line at a 90 degree angle. This is also known as a "right angle."

    • 3

To indicate that the line is indeed a right angle, draw a box to connect the lines.

    • 4

Place arrows on the ends of each of the lines.

    • 5

Place dots near the ends of each side of the lines.

    • 6

Label the dots. For example, we'll use the letters G, H, I, and J.

    • 7

For your equation, write GH. Over the top, draw a line with two arrows on the end. Leave a space and then draw one line vertical line that connects in the middle of a horizontal line. Then, write IJ, again with a line over the top. This means GH is perpendicular to IJ.

Tips & Warnings

  • In geometry, perpendicular lines may be assigned different letters.
