The female condom is a relatively new invention, but it is just as effective as its male counterpart. It can help give women even more control over their sexual health. However, if the female condom is not used properly, the sperm could spill out into the vagina, resulting in pregnancy or an STD. That’s why it’s important that you study the guidelines below before you begin using the female condom.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Female condom
  • Toilet paper
  • Trash can
  1. Step 1

Remove the female condom from its packaging. To do this, look for the notch located at the top of the wrapper. Gently tear this notch apart to reveal the female condom.

  2. Step 2

Look for the closed end of the female condom. This end will have the inner ring, which is what will be placed inside of you. The outer ring, (located at the other end of the female condom), will cover your vaginal opening.

  3. Step 3

With your thumb and middle finger, squeeze the sides of the inner ring together. This will help narrow the female condom.

  4. Step 4

Guide the female condom into your vagina using your index finger. Keep doing this until the inner ring covers your cervix, which is at the base of your uterus.

  5. Step 5

Have intercourse by placing the penis in the outer ring of the female condom. Remember, the outer ring should be clearly visible around your vaginal opening. If it isn’t, the female condom may have gotten twisted up during application. If this happens, remove the female condom and re-insert it.

  6. Step 6

Remove the female condom. You can do this by pinching the sides of the outer ring together and pulling the female condom out of your vagina.

  7. Step 7

Wrap the female condom in toilet paper and discard in the trash can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Extra lubricant is not needed, since most female condoms contain their own lubrication.
  • Female condoms are also coated with spermicide.
  • Birth control should be used as a back up in the event something goes wrong with the female condom.
  • If the penis is not placed right in the outer ring, sperm might get into the vagina.
  • Do not use a male condom and a female condom together.
