Almost everyone goes over their cell phone minutes every once in a while. However, going over and paying high overages is definitely preventable. Here are some simple steps to help you avoid those high charges for those pesky extra minutes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research the cost of land lines in your areas. Often a basic land line will only cost about $10 a month which is much less than it will cost to go over your minutes. Splitting your calls between both a land line and cell phone will reduce costs.

  2. Step 2

Call your cell phone company periodically to check how many minutes you have used during the course of the month. If you are getting close to your maximum then use your land line more frequently.

  3. Step 3

Many people use their cell phones even when they are at the office. Make sure if someone calls you on your cell while you are at work to simply say, "Can I call you right back from my office line?" This will also reduce overages.

  4. Step 4

Turn your phone to "off" rather than to "silent" when you know you cannot answer it. When people leave you messages it still counts towards your minutes.
