1
Observe children when they are indoors. What seems to make them the most happy, and what keeps them occupied for the longest time? A quick and easy solution is to have a stack of movies for the children to pick out and watch. All kids love to sit on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a great movie. This will also keep them occupied if you have some stuff to get done around the home.

2
Choose board games and video games that are educational. This is a great opportunity to get families together spending quality time and it keeps the children learning. The family can spend hours together competing with a video game or a board game. There is not a lot of times when the whole family can actually get together and do these things, so take advantage of it when the opportunity arises.

Clean the house to burn some time. This is probably the last thing that children want to do when they have to stay indoors, so you need to make sure you can have fun with it. Make a game out of chores around the house, and have a small reward for completion. They are more likely to be willing to participate if they know they are going to be having fun while doing it, or they are going to get a treat for it.

4
Create family time when they have to play indoors. When the whole family is stuck indoors, sit down and watch a great movie together on the couch with some popcorn. It’s not often when you can get the whole family together to spend some quality time with each other. Let the children pick the movie to make it more fun for them.

Check your local area for indoor activities. Just because you cannot take the kids swimming outdoors, it doesn’t mean you couldn’t take the children to the indoor community center nearby. Most community centers have indoor playgrounds or swimming pools, and they are usually pretty inexpensive for admission. This is an expensive way for children to still be able to play when they cannot go outdoors.

Sit down at the table and help them with schoolwork. Is there a project for school your child has been working on forever? Find out what they are working on and offer suggestions to help. You can make good use of indoor time by helping them with their schoolwork. It also shows the child that you have an interest in their work.
