1
Make sure you have everything you need to install your home alarm. Check the invoice you received with your package to ensure all of the parts are there. If you find that some of the pieces are missing, contact your home security monitoring service.
-
2
Determine where you’ll place the control unit. The control unit is the heart of your home security system. You’ll need to place it near a working telephone jack and within a few feet of an electrical outlet. Choose an area of the house where it will be easily accessible when you enter your home.

3
Position the window and door sensors. You’ll want to protect all exterior doors of your home and any windows that a thief may deem as easy entry points. Windows on the ground floor and those on the second floor that are easily accessible should be protected. To install a window sensor, peel the protective paper away from the adhesive strip on the back of each sensor part. Firmly attach one part of the sensor to your window and the other to the window frame so that the arrows on the two sensor pieces face each other and are less than ¼ inch apart. To install a door sensor, you’ll attach one sensor piece to the door and the other to the door frame exactly as you did with the window sensors.

4
Determine your security code. Choose a number between four and nine digits that you can easily remember. This is the code you will use to turn the system off when you enter your home to prevent a false alarm call to your monitoring station.
-
5
Set up the control unit. Open the unit and attach the two red wires on the inside by lining up the white ends and pushing them together until your hear them click into place. Plug the unit into a working phone jack and an electrical outlet. The unit should beep or flash when the power is connected.
-
6
Call your home security monitoring station to finish setting up your new system. You’ll first be asked to open the doors and windows that are equipped with sensors. Leave these open for thirty seconds to allow the monitoring station to send and receive messages to and from each sensor. Next you’ll be asked to enter a sequence of numbers that will allow you to set your new security code. You’ll also be asked for a password that you will use in the future to let customer service reps know that you are safe when your home alarm is triggered and your control unit calls the monitoring station.
-
7
Test your system. While on the telephone with the monitoring station, turn your home alarm on and wait until your system is activated. Open a door or window and wait until your alarm sounds and the representative tells you that the monitoring station has received the signal. Enter your security code to turn the system off and you’re done! If you’re alarm doesn’t sound, the customer service representative will help walk you through each step to ensure you’ve properly installed everything.
