How to get listed on Yahoo! Local

The internet is the mecca of advertising in the 21th century. You can get very far by SEO and actually make money solely from Google Adwords, but NOTHING replaces "Word of Mouth" advertisement. The internet version of "Word of Mouth" advertisement is Local Reviews on websites such as Yahoo! Local. It is one of the best ways to get yourself onto Google and if you have positive reviews, to get customers! Getting listed is the first step....I will show you how to do that here.

Things You’ll Need:

• Internet Connection

1. Register for a Yahoo E-mail Address for free.
2. Go to the following link and begin to fill out forms. http://listings.local.yahoo.com/signup/create_1.php
3. Look at competing similar businesses to view their profile and decide how you would like yours to compare/differ. Pay special attention to categories they selected and see if your business qualifies for those as well. For example: If you are starting a Personal Training business, you may only see that you fit under the category of "Personal Trainer," but upon inspection of competitor listings you may notice there is also a "weight loss" section you qualify for.
4. Encourage your customers to review your website. The more positive reviews you receive, the more likely someone looking at the website will contact you!
5. Consider getting listed on additional local review sites such as Yelp and Insiderpages to further advertise your business.

Tips & Warnings

• Consider putting a card on your customer service desk which says, "Please review us on Yahoo! Local." This will also ensure you provide excellent customer service, as you know ANY customer could post the review.
• If you are uncomfortable putting your business address online you can check a box to hide it. There is still the chance you may get someone crazy calling you, but that is the risk with any listing.
