Blackberry ringtones.
Blackberry ringtones.

Ever wonder how your friends and family got all of those fun and wacky ringtones for their phone? With the Blackberry, you can add in fun ringtones without having to pay.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blackberry (any current model)
  • I recommend having an unlimited data plan (otherwise, you'll have to pay for the cost of sending the ring tones to yourself)
  • PC or Mac with Internet connection
  • Email
  1. Step 1

Figure out who you would like to add a custom ring tone. Want something special romantic sound when the wife or hubby calls? How about an annoying warning sound when your Ex rings you? Pick a person and think about what type of ring tone you'd like to hear.

  2. Step 2

As you find ring tones that you like, select the option for "Email me my ring tone!". This will email a link to your Blackberry that will allow you to download ring tone. Once you get the link, select it and the ring tone will open within your Blackberry's Media Player. The Media player offers up the option to "Save MP3 as Ring tone".

  3. Step 3

Finally, you will need to "attach" each ring tone to someone in your Blackberry address book.

    1. Select address book, then highlight the contact you'd like to add the ring tone to.
    2. Press on the Menu key.
    3. Select Edit.
    4. Click "Add Custom Phone Tune".
    6. Set a ring tone.
    7. Then Press the Menu key.
    8. Finally, click "Save".

  4. Step 4

If you would like to test out your custom ring tones, add in your home phone # and assign a ringtone to it. Now call your mobile phone from home and ENJOY!

Tips & Warnings
  • Need some inspiration? Here are some suggested ring tones for friends and family:
  • For your Ex boyfriend: Spider Pig by Homer Simpson
  • For a buddy: Ringing Phone by Southpark
  • Expecting a call from California's Governator? - Terminator 2 Theme
  • Someone silly - Peanut Butter Jelly time - by Family Guy
  • One of the Girls - Labels of Love by Fergie
  • Have a friend named Bill? - Kill Bill ringtone
  • Any buddy who may not yet have it together - Tommy Boy ringtone (hilarious!)
  • Best Bud - Batman and Robin Message
  • Your favorite Super Hero "Want to be" - Ironman song by Black Sabbath
  • Your Favorite "Know it All" - The People's Court Theme
  • Look for ring tones that are about 20 to 25 seconds long.
  • A general rule of thumb, the longer the ringtone, the larger the file.
  • Longer ringtones can be VERY annoying.
  • Stay away from Ringtones that sound like other things. I have made the mistake of setting ring tones that sound like car horns, sirens and cats meowing. Because these are common sounds, I missed a lot of calls as I tuned out the noise.
  • Stay away from obscene or embarrassing ring tones. Although I assign a unique ring tone to each person in my address book, be prepared for them to hear it at some point!
