Things You'll Need:
- Internet access
-
Step 1
Google your favorite author and visit their website. Often they will tell you who their favorite authors are.
-
Step 2
If you like romance novels, check out likebooks.com and go to the Readers Choice “If you like…” page. The page gives suggestions such as, “If you like Nora Roberts, you might like Sandra Brown, Elizabeth Lowell…”
-
Step 3
Santafelibrary.org has a site similar to the one above for mystery book lovers.
-
Step 4
Hclib.org is another library site that will help you find recommended reads based on authors you like, regardless of the genre.
-
Step 5
Amazon.com will create a customized recommended reading page for you. Anytime you select a book, a list is provided of what others readers purchased with that book. Use their “So You’d Like To” search feature and enter “find a good book.” Also, search for your author on their Listmania and see if you can find recommended authors.
-
Step 6
Book clubs that are specific to the genre you like to read are great. If you don’t know where to find one, go to www.bookclub.meetup.com to find one in your area.
-
Step 7
Barnes & Noble has a recommended reading section. Their homepage lists the top 100 best sellers with reader reviews.
-
Step 8
Check the NY Times Bestseller list to see what’s popular.
-
Step 9
Visit book blogs. Themillionsblog.com and bookslut.com are two good ones.
