Things You'll Need:
- White cake mix or your favorite recipe for white cake.
- Softened vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or white frosting
- 1/2 pint blueberries
- 1/2 pint red raspberries
- 1/2 lb. strawberries, hulled and sliced
-
Step 1
Make two American flag cakes by starting with a white cake mix (or your favorite white cake recipe that you make from scratch).
-
Step 2
Divide the batter into two large rectangular cake pans. The baking time will be cut down by 1/3 - 1/2.
-
Step 3
Let the cakes fully cool.
-
Step 4
Top with softened vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or white frosting.
-
Step 5
Make the star field of the American flag by lining up blueberries in the upper-left corner, leaving small spaces for stars. (The real flag has 50.)
-
Step 6
Make alternating rows of red and white, using the raspberries and strawberries. To mimic the real flag, there should be 7 red stripes, alternating with 6 white. Both the top and bottom rows should be red.
-
Step 7
Add more whipped cream, ice cream, or frosting, if desired, to emphasize the white stripes and stars.
-
Step 8
Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. If using ice cream, keep it in the freezer.
